An Ancient Toy, Un giocatolo antico

The image is a detail of an art quilt and the text is from "Roman Horses", 02:

In the same museum is a small four-horse chariot from Cyprus, from the beginning of the 5th century BCE. It has three rotating wheels and is brightly painted in red, green, and black. Inside the chariot are a mother and son. A cheerful object ... Is it a toy, pulled by a child? I could easily imagine that. Four-horse chariots were common in antiquity, used whenever speed was important.
The mythical beginnings of Rome also include a chariot-horse story: Just after Romulus founded Rome in 753 BCE, he supposedly invited the neighboring towns to a festival, which included horse and chariot races. While the Sabine men were watching the spectacle, Romulus and his men carried off their women.
