The damask-cotton of some old napkins invited me to painted them (with Golden Open acrylics). Here they are drying on the cloth line.

Next, I hand-stitched each one of them. "Daffodil" to share the joy of spring.

"Rose" to share the joy of summer.

"Dahlia" to share the joy of autumn.

"Orchid" to share the joy of winter.

The organic shapes in the background are free-motion machine-quilted.

And finally, they are framed. Explore two di...

A complete surprise for us was what we found UNDER Christ Church cathedral....

There is a huge crypt

And then we saw this:

This is in St Patrick's cathedral

The Archeolgy museum has a Viking costume but it was too dark for this phone camera. However, here are some ancient weaving tools

The National Museums of Ireland are free of charge, including the Decorative Arts and History museum. We visited only a small part of their extensive collections and soon enjoyed a good lunch in the museum cafe. But let the show begin...

For over 250 years, both men and women wore special types of underwear to improve their shape, to look more desirable according to the fashion of the time.

December 20, 2017

This is a brief blog post, full of pictures, from December 14th, 2017.

Previous blog posts cover how I started the "Thank YOU Firefighters &*" quilt and "Why a Signature Quilt?".

So here you see the annual dinner for the volunteer Dobbins Oregon House fire fighters, prepared by the Fire Auxiliary who accepted the art quilt as our token of gratitude: from the community - for the community.

 Reception for the firefighters, auxiliar...

Signature quilts are a typical expression of quilting in America. Historically, they are a fashion that started in the 1840s. They are collaborative projects often for community benefits, such as building a hospital, church, or school.

And in our times?

The AIDS Memorial Quilt, started in 1987, is now worldwide the largest piece of community folk art with over 48000 panels weighing 54 tons.

Smaller projects like the National Trib...

On October 8th, 2017, an hour before midnight local time,  the "Cascade Oregon House" fire started. Most residents wouldn't know about it until the next morning, but I was abroad in Italy: 9-hour-timezone difference, plenty of time to worry what's happening.

I had just bought a 55 x 71" cotton tablecloth and now it became a real possibility that there might not be a table to put it on. So in my mind, I dedicated it to the...

(Adding a brief video)

I trust you'll find images of the International Quilt Festival (IQF) prize winners on the internet. Here is a more personal view of the contrasts: the sleek skyline and kids playing in water.

It's the 4th of November, hot and humid. The children are having "summer fun" while right next to it an ice-skating ring is built for "winter fun".

My favorite contrast: the successful, sleek inner city of skyscrapers...

Tired from the hot summer, traveling, the smoke of Northern Californian wild fires, it's refreshing to meet like-minded fiber artists who are willing to share details about how they create their wonderful works. I'm a member of the Mountain Art Quilters who meet monthly in Nevada City.

To be a member you need to at least participate in one Show-and-Tell and produce one art quilt, entirely your own design and execution. Let me s...
